Grafana

Status

Planned — not currently deployed.

Grafana is planned as the visualization layer for future Prometheus metrics and selected infrastructure data.

Intended Role

  • Build dashboards for host and service metrics
  • Correlate performance data during troubleshooting
  • Present trends that simple uptime checks cannot show
  • Support documented operational views for the homelab

Architecture Considerations

Grafana would run with the other infrastructure services in the Lab/Servers environment. Access would be limited through the UniFi zone-based policy model, and data sources would be configured explicitly.

Before Deployment

  • Deploy and validate the metrics source first
  • Define a small set of useful dashboards
  • Document user access and authentication
  • Include dashboards and configuration in backup planning
  • Avoid presenting default dashboards as evidence of meaningful monitoring
